Current consultations

DVLA's current consultations are listed below. Links to closed consultations, summaries of responses and any Impact Assessments (IA) undertaken are also available. We welcome your views as we recognise that effective consultation is a key part of the policymaking process. People’s views can help to shape policy developments.

Consultations are carried out in accordance with the Governments code of practice on consultation, copies of the document can be found at http://www.berr.gov.uk/bre/consultation%20guidance/page44459.html. The consultation period will normally last a minimum of 12 weeks, although there are circumstances in which shorter consultations will be unavoidable, such as where tight timescales are dictated by European Union processes.

An IA will be included as part of most consultations and always where proposals may create burdens for business. A comprehensive list of cross government consultations can be found at:

Impact Assessments (IA)

An IA is a tool, which informs policy decisions. It is an assessment of the impact of policy options in terms of the costs, benefits and risks of proposals. An IA is published alongside all legislation that imposes costs on, or realises benefits to, business, charities and the voluntary sector.

IA not related to consultations

More information about IAs can be obtained from the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR)/Better Regulation Executive (BRE) web-site in the section called Regulatory Impact Assessment:
